How participatory are you during sessions?
I participate in every session. There are times where the client does most of the talking and they find it very helpful. There are also times when I talk more because I’m teaching or sharing valuable information.
How long should I commit to being in therapy, at least in the beginning?
You should expect a weekly, 50-60 minute session. The frequency and length of therapy depends on your progress and goals. It varies from person to person. I’ve worked with people for three months and I’ve worked with people for years. We will collaborate about how you’re feeling and the progress that you’re making.
What is the best part of the work for you?
Seeing the person’s transformation. Therapy is tough, but it’s a wonderful journey. People come to me hurting, feeling overwhelmed, anxious, etc. When they finish services, they are in a healthier place.
Do you assign homework, activities, or reading for me to do between sessions? Why or why not?
Yes, I assign homework, activities, and reading for you to do between sessions. Having homework and activities to do between sessions teaches people how to support themselves, build up coping skills, and problem solving strategies. It’s important to learn the skills during session and then apply them outside. People who complete their homework tend to grow the most.
I used a platform called SimplePractice, this is what I use to send you mental health resources and assignments. You will set up a client portal before we get started working together, learn about it here.
